I still want Marvel Studios to reveal more about Tom Holland"s
Spider-Man, even though the upcoming animated Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man series will debut a brand-new version of the wall-crawler in the MCU. Since his debut in 2016"s Captain America: Civil War, we"ve seen Tom Holland"s Peter Parker become one of the most important superheroes in the MCU. He has gone from strength to strength in his own solo Spider-Man movie trilogy, and has fought alongside the franchise"s most powerful heroes in several crossover projects, but we still haven"t seen one Spider-Man story.
While Tom Holland readies himself to get back in action in the MCU"s upcoming Spider-Man 4, a new variant of Peter Parker is soon to be introduced in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
The animated Disney+ series will introduce a version of Parker, voiced by Hudson Thames, who finds himself mentored by Colman Domingo"s Norman Osborn rather than Tony Stark. I"m certain this will forge a very different version of Spider-Man, and while this is exciting, I"m worried Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man"s story will mean we"ll never see part of Tom Holland"s Spider-Man history.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Will Explore Peter Parker’s Origins (But Not Tom Holland’s) Hudson Thames Voices Peter Parker In Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Close One of the key stories that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is expected to explore is that of how Peter Parker became Spider-Man. By now, it"s been over a decade since Peter Parker"s origin story was last explored fully on-screen in 2012"s The Amazing Spider-Man, as Marvel Studios avoided re-telling this iconic story when introducing Tom Holland to the MCU in Captain America: Civil War. Instead,
we saw Holland"s Peter Parker already operating as Spider-Man in Civil War, and his origin story has not been shown in his subsequent appearances.
I"m very excited to see the MCU"s version of Peter Parker"s origin story finally brought to screen in the 10-episode-long Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. This could be taken straight from the pages of Marvel Comics, which saw Parker bitten by a radioactive spider at a science fair, or from previous live-action Spider-Man movies, which had Parker enhanced during a field trip to Oscorp. While I"m thrilled Hudson Thames" Peter Parker will get his origin story explored,
I also really want to see this period of Tom Holland"s Peter Parker"s life detailed in the live-action MCU.
I Want The MCU To Show Us How Tom Holland’s Peter Parker Got His Powers We've Never Seen The MCU's Peter Parker's Origin Story As Spider-Man
When bringing Tom Holland into the MCU as Peter Parker"s Spider-Man, Marvel Studios decided that we didn"t need to see the wall-crawler"s origin story adapted into live-action yet again. We previously saw Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield"s Peter Parkers go through the same development, with the latter taking place only four years before Holland"s debut as Spider-Man. This meant that, at the time,
I understood why Marvel avoided re-telling this story. However, now, I would love to see Spider-Man"s origin story explored in the MCU.

I"m worried that the fact Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be exploring this origin story means Tom Holland"s Peter Parker might never get the chance. However,
Marvel Studios has the opportunity to make these two Peter Parker variants" origin stories wildly different from each other. Holland"s Spider-Man had some brilliant MCU connections prior to his debut in Captain America: Civil War, which I would love to see included in the development of his origin story, showing exactly how he got his powers prior to his Phase 3 introduction.
Spider-Man: No Way Home Made Spider-Man’s MCU Origin Story Much More Interesting Spider-Man's Origin Story In The MCU Will Not Be What We Know
I found it interesting that Marvel Studios chose not to re-tell Spider-Man"s origin story in the MCU as the stories laid out in 2002"s Spider-Man and 2012"s The Amazing Spider-Man were not comic-accurate, so their proximity to Civil War shouldn"t have mattered. This makes me think that Marvel Studios was considering using Peter Parker"s Oscorp connection in the MCU, too, rather than having Parker enhanced at a science exhibit.
Spider-Man: No Way Home confused this insinuation, however, by confirming that Oscorp does not exist in the MCU.
Willem Dafoe"s Norman Osborn suggests Oscorp does not exist in the MCU after being dragged to Earth-616 by Doctor Strange"s botched spell. He also implies his son, Harry, may also not exist, but leaves the door open for his own variant to appear in the MCU"s future.
This means new layers and connections could be added to Peter Parker"s origin story as the MCU"s Spider-Man, making it very different to anything that had been brought to screen before it. This could also massively differentiate it from the story about to be explored in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, which makes me think both stories can still run simultaneously.
With no Oscorp, the possibilities are limitless, so I would love to see Spider-Man 4 use flashbacks to explore Peter Parker"s origins, especially now that he"s alone and perhaps reminiscing after No Way Home.
Exploring Spider-Man’s Origin Story In The MCU Would Allow Missing Characters To Debut Marvel Hasn't Introduced Some Of The Most Important Spider-Man-Related Characters
Finally exploring Spider-Man"s origin story in the MCU would provide the perfect opportunity for some of his most important supporting characters to make their first appearances in the franchise or be developed further. Crucially,
I would love to see flashbacks detailing the relationship between Peter Parker, Aunt May and Uncle Ben, as the latter has never been seen in the MCU. Uncle Ben plays a key role in Parker"s evolution as Spider-Man in Marvel Comics, and while Marisa Tomei"s May filled this role in the MCU"s Spider-Man franchise, I still want Ben to have his time in the spotlight.
Related There's Still No Better Theory Than This To Explain Spider-Man's Missing MCU Origin Most Spider-Man fans know the story of Peter Parker"s parents without the MCU having to explicitly explain, but it is still a looming mystery.

Aunt May"s sudden death at the hands of the Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home was incredibly emotional, so I"d love to see her return to the MCU for flashbacks of Peter Parker"s origin story as Spider-Man. This could also explain more about May"s mysterious past after No Way Home, particularly her possible connection to vigilante lawyer Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil. Marvel Studios could even take this opportunity to reveal more about Peter Parker"s parents, so I think this would be a fantastic addition to Tom Holland"s next
Spider-Man adventure.
