The DCU"s Batman Reboot Gets Disappointing Development Update From The Brave & The Bold Director

The Brave and the Bold has gotten an unfortunate production update. The upcoming movie is set to introduce a new version of Batman as part of the James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Universe, as the DC Extended Universe Batman star Ben Affleck will not be returning and the Robert Pattinson The Batman franchise takes place in another universe as part of DC Elseworlds. In June 2023, it was announced that the upcoming The Brave and the Bold, which also features the version of Robin who is Batman"s son Damian Wayne, will be helmed by The Flash director Andy Muschietti.
During a recent interview with Vorterix, Andy Muschietti revealed that The Brave and the Bold has "been postponed a bit." He revealed that he is currently in the process of writing a new science fiction movie that he might direct before helming the DCU Batman title amid its delays, about which he did not offer any further details. Read Muschietti"s full quote, which has been translated from the original Spanish, below:
I’m now writing a science fiction movie that I would like to do… Batman is a project that’s been postponed a bit. So there could be another film before it, possibly that one.
What This Means For The DCU Superman Won't Be Joined By Batman Anytime Soon When it was announced that the DCEU was giving way to the DCU under the guidance of Gunn and Safran, who are the new DC Studios co-chairmen and co-CEOs, The Brave and the Bold was one of the first titles on the slate of incoming projects. However, in the wake of that announcement, it was not given a release date, unlike other upcoming DCU movies including Superman (July 11, 2025), Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (June 26, 2026), and Clayface (September 11, 2026).
Superman introduces a new version of the titular hero played by David Corenswet, replacing the DCEU"s Henry Cavill.
These unspecified delays would seem to explain why The Brave and the Bold is not yet scheduled. However, it does mean that it will likely be some time before the official DCU version of Batman debuts. Although the DCU is already scheduled through late 2026, the fact that Muschietti could potentially be making an entire unrelated movie before returning to the project, as well as its competition for the open schedule slots with other undated titles such as The Authority and Swamp Thing, could mean that it will be several more years before the project finally comes to fruition.
Our Take On The Brave And The Bold Delay It Could Prove To Be A Good Thing While the reasons for The Brave and the Bold delay are unknown, the fact that Gunn and Safran are not rushing the upcoming Batman movie into production is likely a wise decision. The duo seem to be valuing quantity over quality in the new iteration of the franchise, instead of rushing to create an interconnected franchise to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an approach that may ultimately have led to the original DCEU"s downfall. The new Batman must be handled carefully, and taking this time to ensure it is done right could result in a huge critical and commercial success.
