Chris Hemsworth and Tom Holland’s Marvel characters have never met, but the two MCU actors shared the screen a decade ago in Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea. In the Heart of the Sea tells the true story of the 1820 sinking of the Essex whaling vessel, which partly inspired Herman Melville to write Moby Dick. Hemsworth leads the cast of In the Heart of the Sea as the ship’s first mate, Owen Chase, while Holland plays the cabin boy, Thomas Nickerson.
Although it was a box office bomb when it first released in theaters in 2015, In the Heart of the Sea has become a streaming success since it premiered on Netflix. It’s a riveting blockbuster spectacle capturing the terror of a shipwreck and the thrill of a whale hunt, and audiences are finally catching up after all this time. The movie also achieves a long-anticipated Marvel team-up that Marvel itself hasn’t been able to pull off for the past nine years.
